They include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Cheaper production\/manufacturing costs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lighter shipping in tinier packages<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Easier installation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More mounting options<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, the Starlink round dish kit box weighs 30 lbs. and measures 33 x 26 x 9 inches. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, the rectangular design dish comes in a 23.5 x 14 x 10.6-inch box that weighs 18.7 lbs. So it is easier and cheaper to ship the product.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"starlink-round-vs-square-dish-router\">Starlink Round vs. Square Dish: Router<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>This router is part of the kit, and the second-gen unit had minor changes. So you&#8217;ll have to pay more to get a feature built into the first-gen dish router.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is vital to note that eliminating the ethernet port might not make sense to the customer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it makes sense to the company because it helps generate more revenue from ethernet adapter sales. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So we can only wait to see how far Starlink will go to get every extra dollar with future Dishy generations.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"starlink-round-vs-square-dish-power\">Starlink Round vs. Square Dish: Power<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Since it is smaller and more efficiently built, the second-gen dish has a lower average power consumption ranging between 50-75W. The old one consumes 65-100W.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another advantage of the new dish is it comes with a 50 ft. detachable power cable (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Power_over_Ethernet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">power-over-ethernet<\/a>), which you can replace when damaged or buy a longer internet cable to reach the antenna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/starlinkhow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/5-32.jpg\" alt=\"A power-over-ethernet adapter\" class=\"wp-image-5085\" srcset=\"https:\/\/starlinkhow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/5-32.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/starlinkhow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/5-32-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/starlinkhow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/5-32-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>A power-over-ethernet adapter<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the shielded CAT5e power-over-ethernet cable uses proprietary connectors on each end, not the regular RJ45 connectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The old circular dish came with a longer 100 ft. cable, but it was not detachable. So any damage meant replacing the antenna and cable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This cable and the router&#8217;s 6.5 ft. standard CAT5e cable connect directly to the power brick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rectangular dish has no external power brick. It integrates its brick with the router, so the router powers the antenna using a power-over-ethernet cable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> But both have a six ft.
