RCA Universal Remote Control Programming Methods
RCA universal remote controls have four programming methods.
Brand Code Search & Entry
As the name suggests, this method lets you program the RCA remote using the brand/manufacturer code if listed in the brand code list.
The process is one of the fastest ways to program the remote, but it only works if your brand is on the list.
Direct Code Entry
With the direct code entry method, you input the component code you want to program in the remote.
It is almost similar to the brand code search method because you’ll still have to search using the brand.
However, you’ll enter the specific device code (a 4-digit code), not the brand code.

Manual Code Search & Entry
Manual code search comes in handy if you can’t find your device’s brand in the list of codes or if you have tried all the brand codes and the RCA universal remote doesn’t work.
This method searches through all the RCA universal codes in the list, so it takes time and effort because you have to search manually, then press the stop button when you find the correct code to save and store.
Auto Code Search & Entry
Instead of trying out one code at a time, auto search sends a block containing ten RCA universal codes to your device.
So it hastens the search process, and if your device responds, its code will be among the ten in the last code block.
With that, you’ll only have to search from ten potential codes.

RCA Universal Remote Control Direct Code Setup Steps
We will consider the direct code entry method because it involves entering the four-digit codes listed below. The steps include the following.
- Make sure you have fresh batteries in the remote control.
- Turn on the device you want to pair with the remote.
- Press and hold the component key corresponding with that device (TV, DVD, Blu-ray, DVR, etc.). The LED should turn and remain on.

A Blu-ray player
- Enter the RCA remote code for the device while holding the component key (the process will exit if you release the key).
- Release the component key. The LED will turn off to indicate the code works and the programming procedure is okay.
- If the LED blinks four times, the steps might be incorrect, or you may have entered the wrong code.
- Test the component by controlling several functions if the LED turns off without blinking. If some operations don’t work, try programming a different code for a device similar to yours in the RCA universal remote codes list.
RCA Universal Remote Control Codes
It is vital to note that all TV programming codes start with the number 1, while DVR and VCR begin with 2.
Codes for DVDs start with the number 3, while those of all audio devices start with 4. Lastly, programming codes for cable boxes and satellite devices begin with 5.
