Is it really possible to use a GPS implant tracker beneath the skin and monitor the location of an animal or human being? 

 There’s all kinds of chatter on the internet about GPS implants, so I’m here to give you the lowdown on what’s true, and what’s fake news!

What is “GPS Implants”?

GPS implants do not currently exist. But that hasn’t stopped people from spreading rumors about them.

Some have even suggested that the government aims to implant us all with these devices to monitor our movements. 

This is, of course, complete nonsense. 

First of all, thanks to the GPS devices we wear or carry around with us every day, it wouldn’t be difficult for authorities to track us if needed.

Secondly, this type of device isn’t feasible with today’s technology.

If inventors create GPS implants, how would they work? Well, this is a difficult question, as no one has yet found a way to make GPS implants. 

We can suppose that they would work in the same way as any other GPS device.

However, as GPS implants don’t exist, it is impossible for me to say for sure how they would work. If I knew that, I’d be inventing them myself!

One thing I can be sure of is that a GPS implant will need a differently-designed power source.

At the moment, GPS devices need to be plugged into mains or have their battery recharged regularly. 

Clearly, GPS devices have batteries that are too large to go under someone’s skin.

So, for GPS implants to be viable, battery life must be dramatically improved, or we need a whole new way of powering them.

It would be great if we were able to GPS track cats. Our furry companions are very adventurous, so it would be interesting to see what they get up to at night.

Maybe in the future, we’ll be able to track our kitties with a GPS implant for cats, but not today. 

An alternative is a GPS tracker for cats, although these devices are quite heavy, cumbersome, and need charging often.

Dogs also have microchips, but just like cats, these are RFID devices that cannot be used to track their movements.

The best alternative for GPS implants is GPS trackers. 

These devices receive signals from satellite networks to determine their real-time location. The location is then layered onto a map to make them easy to find. 

There are all kinds of GPS trackers on the market. You can buy ones that are designed for personal vehicles, valuable goods, or large shipments.

Long-distance drivers use GPS products to help them find their way along a suitable route. 

For pets, GPS trackers are becoming more popular. They attach to your pet’s collar and can be linked to your mobile phone for fuss-free monitoring. 

GPS trackers for pets are perfect if you have a wandering cat or a dog that tends to run off during walks.

With a quick glance at your phone, you can see where they are in real-time.   

Could We Have GPS Implants in the Future?

Perhaps, who knows? 

With technology advancing at such a rapid rate, anything is possible. However, if GPS implants are ever invented, there will likely be heavy government regulation surrounding their use.
